RCA Victor LM-2247
I came to The Robert Shaw Chorale through their Christmas recordings. When I saw this record at the thrift shop, in good condition inside and out, I picked it up. It is not on CD. According to wikipedia, Shaw "founded the Collegiate Chorale, a group notable in its day for its racial integration."
From the LP notes:
"Why it is that 'man's inhumanity to man' should often produce great art is one of the mysteries of the human spirit."
Deep River
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
My Lord, What A Morning
What a discovery!
ReplyDeleteThis music was played on Saturday mornings at my parents home.
The turntable that was used for playing this record had been out of order for over 20 years, and only memory remained.
Now finally I am able to listen to these beautiful voices again, and share this with my own kids.
I only wish you made available the entire album.
Thank you very much.
Thanks for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the music.
ReplyDeletehow sad that there isn't a digital copy or CD of this. I was looking through the track list and would kill to hear "This Ol' Hammer"
ReplyDeleteGood news: someone has posted it on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/Ny8YI_883kw?t=12m38s
